The Book of Proverbs was primarily authored by King Solomon. In Proverbs 1:7 of the King James Version we read “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Solomon didn’t listen to his own words. He became a great fool after becoming blessed with great wealth he married 400 wives and had another 600 concubines and building altars to pagan god for each of his wives, and concubines. A clear example of not fearing his God. Also setting and example for his son which was the result of God divorcing ten of the tribes of Israel.
The ten tribes became the Samaritans. Jews are descended primarily from the ancient Kingdom of Judah. Samaritans trace their lineage to the northern Kingdom of Israel, which fractured from the south following the reign of King Solomon. They are the people that have lived in that area for thousands of years. While the the Tribe of Judah nicknamed Jew were remove from the Kingdom of Judah around 70 AD by the Romans. All a consequence of Solomon’s lack of fear of God. Notice the ten northern tribes and the land they occupied was never the land of the Jews.
The reason for fearing God is to live a righteous life as to not receive a punishment. A kind loving God would be viewed as weak, something to exploit. While righteous power is viewed as evil, because it prevents people from seeking what gives them pleasure. Like Solomon they want to seek pleasures without any knowledge of consequences. People today view God as unjust, because He permits Satan to destroy the lives of believes through trails and tribulation while watching people suffer. Asking God for gifts and not receiving them creates a view of cruelty while witnessing others receiving blessings shows signs of favoritism. Creating views of why so many have come to disbelieve in God. In the story of Solomon people over look the fact that God granted Solomons request of wisdom in order to serve God’s people well. Therefore when asking God for gift how does it serve God’s plan and not yours. People seldom ask God for gifts that help to serve others. People need to view God as wise knowing when to give gifts and when to punish.
